Our History

Reserva Quetzal was born in 2017, founded and maintained ever since by Renato and Jeanette. Its purpose is to preserve a fragment of Andean cloud forest, one of the most biodiverse ecosystems on the planet. What began as a peaceful refuge in nature became a conservation project dedicated to protecting wildlife, restoring habitat, and welcoming visitors who value silence, forests, and authentic experiences in nature.

Where We Are

The reserve is located in the Andean foothills, between 1,700 and 2,200 meters in elevation, where mist moves through the trees almost every day. This altitude creates a cool climate and a forest filled with mosses, orchids, bromeliads, and a great diversity of species that depend on moisture and shade.

What Makes This Place Special

77 hectares of privately owned forest, permanently protected, including 5 hectares of former pastureland that have been fully reforested.

Quiet trails, ideal for disconnecting.

A refuge for birds, mammals, insects, and plants.

A place to explore without hurry.

Perfect for birdwatchers, photographers, hikers, and anyone seeking tranquility.

Conservation and Philosophy

Our goal is clear: to keep this forest healthy.

We protect native species, maintain areas of natural regeneration, and manage the reserve with a low-impact approach. We invite our visitors to walk gently, observe patiently, and enjoy the forest without rushing.

But conservation must always be connected to the people who live here, the human beings who have inhabited this valley for more than 50 years. We have consistently contributed to the well-being of the community, both through infrastructure (drinking water, wastewater treatment systems, waste management, free Wi-Fi, community center, security cameras, etc.).

Everything we do, from maintaining trails to caring for our guests, follows the principles of respect, minimal impact, and authenticity.

A Living Forest

Reserva Quetzal is home to an extraordinary variety of life.

Tanagers, toucanets, trogons, hummingbirds, monkeys, armadillos, and even the occasional spectacled bear roam these mountains. Every visit reveals something different, and no day in the cloud forest is the same as the one before. Here, time feels different.

In the forest, the air is cool and the mist transforms each morning. Visitors come to listen, breathe, photograph, walk, and reconnect with nature in a simple and profound way.

Whether you visit for a day or stay for several nights, we hope the reserve becomes a memorable place: a peaceful corner of the Andes where the forest still retains its voice.

A private cloud forest sanctuary protected with dedication.

Aquí, el tiempo se siente diferente.
