  • From Quito (1 hour 30 minutes by car) or other major cities, it is possible to take a taxi or arrange for private transportation. We can assist you with arranging this as well.

Weather and Seasons

  • Climate: Cool and humid throughout the year. From January to June, afternoon rains are predominant, while from August to December it is generally sunny with little rainfall.

  • Typical temperatures: Range between 15–24°C for most of the year.

What to Bring

  • Mountain boots or sturdy shoes.

  • Rain jacket or poncho.

  • Warm clothing (fleece or sweater).

  • Reusable water bottle (refill stations are available).

  • Flashlight or headlamp (for nighttime walks).

  • Binoculars and camera (recommended for wildlife).

  • Small backpack for day hikes.

  • Comfortable clothing for the cabin.

Health, Safety, and Comfort

  • Potable water available.

  • Hot-water showers in the accommodations.

  • Electricity and basic services included.

  • Cellular service may be spotty or unavailable, but we provide Wi-Fi at no additional cost.

  • Staff available for guidance or emergencies.

Travel Responsibly and Leave Only Footprints

  • Stay on marked trails.

  • Do not leave trash or waste behind.

  • Do not feed or disturb the wildlife.

  • Try to keep quiet, especially in the early morning and at night.

  • Your visit helps keep the reserve healthy and alive.

Ideal Location

We are located in Ecuador, directly on the Equator. We are at 1,700 meters above sea level, with an average temperature of 20°C throughout the year.

The Equator crosses the Reserve just 10 meters from the door of the Casa Grande.
